Protecting Fine Wooden Blinds Advice
Protecting Fine Wooden Blinds Advice
Wooden blinds can be made out of a wide variety of woods. This makes it easier to match the blinds to other furniture, accents, or style choices. However, one of the potential vulnerabilities of wooden blinds is moisture. Rotting, warping, and decay are all potential negative results of mixing humidity or moisture and beautiful wooden blinds. Fortunately, there are ways to combat this problem and keep your wooden blinds looking elegant for many years.
For the aforementioned reasons, many makers of wooden blinds manufacture their product out of basswood. This type of wood is more resistant to moisture than other, softer woods and thus less likely to warp. Many people are unaware of this fact and don’t take it into account when making other decisions such as size, color and mounting. As a standard wood for wooden blinds, basswood is a reliable choice to protect against the elements without compromising style. With the addition of the proper stain, this wood may not match your furniture exactly but will blend unnoticeably with the rest of your décor.
However, if you have your heart set on an alternate type of wood and nothing else will suffice, there are other ways around the moisture issue. Wooden blinds can be coated with a protective sealant that keeps it from rotting or warping. To further extend the life of your wooden blinds, use caution when hanging them. Hang the blinds in an arid room, away from moisture sources, or invest in a dehumidifier. This will pull the moisture out of the room and away from your blinds.
