Charming Wooden Blinds Advice

Wooden blinds are a charming accent to any home as they can be customized to fit nearly every sense of style. From the elegant to the earthy, real wooden blinds complement the rest of the room nicely. Obviously many people hang them as window coverings. However, some innovative decorators have used wooden blinds on flat walls to create the illusion of a window where there is none. Windowless rooms often create an unpleasant of claustrophobia, but these fake windows provide a solution. This is an interesting technique to open up an otherwise oppressive space.

All that is necessary is to build a frame for your “window” so that there is a place to attach the wooden blinds as well as a “window sill” for the bottom of the blinds to come to rest on. This need not be elaborate and simply creating a rectangle out of extra pieces of trimming that match the other accents in your room will do nicely. Then simply hang the wooden blinds as you would in a real window, allowing the bottom of the blinds to fall just above your artificial window sill.

Using this simple do-it-yourself, it is possible to open up a space without the necessity of tearing open walls. This is especially important in apartment buildings where there may actually be another apartment on the other side of the wall. The illusion that the wooden blinds provide is a nice substitute, not to mention your blinds can be used again should you ever find yourself in possession of real windows.
